Graduate PLUS Loans

Graduate PLUS Loan

If you're a half-time or full-time graduate or professional student attending an
eligible institution a Graduate PLUS loan may interest you.

NOTE: HSBC will discontinue its Federal Family Education Loan program and cease making new loans effective May 31, 2008. No new loans will be processed for the 08/09 academic year.

Ready for an Application?

For loans certified on/after 7/1/06 the Federal Parent Loan program was expanded to include graduate and professional students.

Students should apply for the maximum eligibility under the Federal Stafford Loans first. A FAFSA must be completed and a credit check will also be required. Students can borrow up to the cost of education minus financial aid.

The interest rate for Graduate PLUS loans is fixed at 8.50%.

Borrowers can take as long as 10 years to repay the loan and payments begin within 60 days of the final disbursement of each loan. An in-school deferment may be requested while in school but interest will accrue during the deferment period.

Benefits

When your loan enters repayment:

  • Effective for new loans disbursed on/after January 1, 2008, you may be eligible to receive 0.50% principal reduction after making 12 initial, consecutive, on-time payments of principal and interest.

Note: HSBC reserves the right to discontinue or modify this benefit program at any time.
