"Joined Up to Give Back" - Thousands of HSBC Employees Nationwide to Volunteer in Community Service Projects

Mettawa, Ill – More than 5,000 employees from HSBC-North America’s HFC and Beneficial branches as well as HSBC Credit Centers will team up with Rebuilding Together and other community organizations nationwide in a wide variety of community service and environmental projects. The HSBC philanthropic initiative, called “Joined Up to Give Back,” will take place in communities around the country on June 9 - 22.

Over the course of two weeks, HSBC employees from nearly 1,000 HFC and Beneficial branches and 24 HSBC Credit Centers will participate in projects such as improving affordable, sustainable housing for low-income families, planting trees, and cleaning up and adding energy efficient upgrades to community centers and schools. HSBC will contribute approximately 30,000 volunteer hours and provide much needed help to some 160 communities across the country.

In addition to Rebuilding Together, major HSBC partners also include Habitat for Humanity, Boys & Girls Clubs and Boy Scouts of America.

“Giving back to the communities that we serve is a central component of our corporate character,” says Kathryn Madison, executive vice president, managing director of HFC and Beneficial’s Retail Branch Operations. “These volunteer projects are consistent with HSBC’s long-standing support for affordable housing, conservation and environmental protection initiatives in our communities.”

The “Joined Up to Give Back” program is part of Financial Services Roundtable’s “Community Service 2008” initiative, of which HSBC is a national sponsor. Last year, member companies of the Financial Services Roundtable launched more than 450 projects, raising over $3.8 million. The events, involving 26,000 volunteers, helped over 3,400 families in all 50 states.
