HSBC Appoints Mark Watkinson Head Of Commercial Banking For North America

HSBC Bank USA, N.A. (HSBC) today announced the appointment of Mark Watkinson as a Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Commercial Banking for North America. Based in New York City, he will manage HSBC's commercial banking operations across the United States, Canada and Bermuda. He succeeds Christopher Davies who has been named Deputy CEO, HSBC China. In his new role, Watkinson reports to Irene Dorner, President and CEO, HSBC Bank USA, and functionally to Alan Keir, Group Managing Director and Global Head of Commercial Banking.
Prior to this role, Watkinson served as an Executive Vice President, National Head of Commercial Banking and Regional President, Central and Eastern Canada for HSBC Bank Canada. Before his role in Canada, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Philippines and also served as Senior Vice President and Group Head of Corporate Middle Markets in the United States. With more than 25 years at HSBC, Watkinson has also held a number of key Commercial Banking positions in locations such as the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, United States, Philippines, Brunei, United Arab Emirates and Canada.
"Mark will oversee a team of experienced commercial bankers serving the domestic and international banking needs of small and mid-to-large size companies," said Irene Dorner. "Under his leadership, we will be able to further grow our commercial banking franchise especially in markets such as California, Florida, Texas, Washington, DC, and Washington State. He will also ensure we continue to keep our leadership in New York State and the Tri-State Area."
"Mark will retain close ties to the Canadian commercial banking operations to fully leverage the best practices and commercial banking expertise in North America and around the world as we continue to further expand and strengthen our commercial banking franchise in this region," added Alan Keir. "This will ultimately benefit our clients."
Watkinson obtained a law degree in 1984 and became a Barrister-at -Law in the United Kingdom in 1986. In 1995, he was awarded a Master of Business Administration with Distinction from the University of Warwick (UK).
Watkinson's successor in Canada will be named in due course.
