01 August 2013

New York, NY and Sao Paulo, Brazil - HSBC today announced that Ricardo Lanfranchi has joined as Head of Local Equity Sales for Latin America. In this new role, he will oversee the team covering domestic Latin American accounts while assisting with the further build-out of HSBC's international equities franchise. Lanfranchi will work closely with Gerard Watson, Head of International Equity Sales for Latin America based in New York, to ensure effective delivery of the Bank's global equity capabilities. Lanfranchi will be based in Brazil and report functionally to Thomas O'Leary, Head of Equities for the Americas, and locally to Otavio Mendes, Head of Global Markets for Brazil.

"Ricardo is a well-known professional in the Brazilian market. His appointment is a strategic addition to our senior team as we methodically continue to add to our equity capabilities across the Americas," notes Thomas O'Leary, Head of Equities for the Americas. "Our clients in Brazil and globally will benefit greatly from his wealth of experience."

Lanfranchi joins from Barclays Capital where most recently he served as President of Barclay's Corretora de Títulos e Valores Mobiliários S.A. ("CTVM") and was responsible for the institution's Brazil equities platform. He also spent 12 years at Merrill Lynch managing the bank's Brazil broker dealer.

HSBC has added seven new senior analysts to its research team so far this year. HSBC's Latin America research team now consists of 25 senior analysts, equity strategists, and economists covering more than 150 stocks across the region's six main markets - Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru - from research offices in São Paulo, Mexico City, Buenos Aires and New York City.
