Generate a Security Code using a Digital Security Device

Launch the HSBC Mobile Banking App on your smartphone and select Generate Security Code.

From the Log On Security Code tab, enter your HSBC Digital Security Device Passcode and select Generate. You create the Security Device Passcode when you activated the Digital Security Device. It's at least 6 characters long and contains both letters and numbers.

Enter your security code on the log on screen of Personal Internet Banking.

If you forgot your Security Device Passcode, click 'Help' in the upper right corner. You will be prompted to provide the answers to security questions that you set up when you registered for Personal Internet Banking to verify your identity. If you don’t remember the answers to your security questions, please call customer service at 866.537.4722.

Note: If you enter an incorrect Security Device Passcode, a Security Code will still be generated for security reasons. However it will not work when you attempt to enter it in the Log on screen.

Generate a Security Code using a Physical Security Device

Press and hold the green button for 2 seconds to turn on your HSBC Security Device.

Enter the HSBC Security Device PIN you selected when you activated your device. On entering the correct PIN "HSBC" will display on the screen.

Once "HSBC" is displayed, press the green button again. This will generate a 6-digit Security Code.

If an incorrect PIN has been entered, a "FAIL 001" error code will appear on the screen. An error code will appear on screen as "FAIL 002, FAIL 003" for subsequent incorrect PIN entries. If you enter the PIN incorrectly 3 times, the word LOCK will appear at the top of the screen. If this happens, you can reset it by going to the Log On screen of Personal Internet Banking, and click "Forgot my Security Device PIN". You will be prompted to provide the answers to security questions which you set up when you registered for Personal Internet Banking to verify your identity. Enter the Security Device unlock code displayed on your screen into the Physical Security Device, and follow the onscreen instructions to unlock your Security Device. If you forgot your security question answers, please call Customer Service at 866.537.4722 to reset your credentials.
