From before you arrive to once you’ve landed, we can help each step of the way

    1. Call our friendly International Banking Centers to set up your checking account directly over the phone.1
    2. Make sure you have these documents at hand when you call us:
      • Passport
      • Student Visa

        Useful to know: if you don't have your student visa yet, we will ask you for a secondary type of identification such as an Identify Card issued by your home country government (where available) or your birth certificate or your local driving license.

      • Proof of enrollment document (acceptance letter from the school)
      • A utility bill (except cellphone) dated less than 3 months or any government issued document including your address, as well as your last 3 bank statements.

        Useful to know: If you already bank with HSBC back home, we could reuse some of your information already on file, so remember to have your existing account details handy

    3. You will receive a checking account application form by e-mail to review, sign and return back to us by e-mail with a scanned copy of the documents listed above. You will need to get those documents certified as originals.
    4. Once we receive your application back, your account can be open in 24 to 48 hours.
    5. You can enroll for mobile banking as soon as your checking account is opened, and we can also ship your debit card2 directly to your home before you start your journey to the US.
    1. Call our friendly International Banking Centers or visit one of our local branches. We have branches close to some of the most prestigious Universities, but you can also walk into any branch of your choice, depending what’s most practical for you.
    2. Make sure you have these documents with you when calling or visiting us:

    3. We can open your checking account the same day.
    4. You can enroll for mobile banking as soon as your account is opened. If you have opted for a debit card, you will receive it to your U.S. address in between 10 and 12 business days.
