HSBC Choice Checking Offer details

New to HSBC: Receive a $100 Welcome Deposit2 by meeting the following requirements:

  • Open an HSBC Choice Checking account from June 24, 2019 through and including February 15, 2020, listing student as your occupation on your application; and
  • Deposit $25 or more in New Money within 30 calendar days of account opening; and
  • Maintain a Qualifying Direct Deposit of $500, or debit card purchases of $100, or electronic Bill Pay for 3 consecutive months from account opening

You will automatically receive the $100 Welcome Deposit in your new HSBC Choice Checking account approximately eight weeks after completing all qualifying activities.

1 The 6 Year Maintenance Fee Waiver Offer is available for applications completed in United States branches, Retail Relationship Center or the International Banking Center from June 24, 2019 – February 15, 2020 (“Offer Period”). You must be at least 18 years of age and list student as your occupation on your application (“Qualifying Student”). Customers who held a HSBC consumer deposit or investment account from June 23, 2016 through and including June 23, 2019 are not eligible for this offer. Customers who maintain(ed) a HSBC Mortgage and/or Credit Card without a consumer deposit or investment account are eligible. For Qualifying Student who opens a HSBC Choice Checking account during Offer Period, the Choice Checking account Monthly Maintenance Fee will be waived for six (6) years from account opening. After the 6 year period, Monthly Maintenance Fee may apply. The $15 Monthly Maintenance Fee can be avoided as long as one of the following requirements are met: (1) $1,500 minimum balance in combined U.S. Dollar personal deposit accounts and investment* balances; OR (2) a recurring qualifying direct deposit from a third party. Qualifying direct deposits are electronic deposits of regular periodic payments (such as salary, pension, Government Benefits or other monthly income) made into your HSBC Choice Checking account from third parties at least once per calendar month. Requirements and Monthly Maintenance Fee amount are subject to change. 2 The $100 Welcome Deposit Offer is available only for applications completed in United States branches, Customer Relationship Center or the International Banking Center from June 24, 2019 – February 15, 2020 (“Offer Period”). To qualify for the HSBC Choice Checking College $100 Welcome Deposit during the Offer Period you must: (1) be at least 18 years of age; (2) list student as your occupation on your application; (3) deposit within your account a minimum Qualifying Balance of $25 or more in New Money within 30 calendar days of account opening, and (4) maintain a Qualifying Direct Deposit of $500 OR Debit Card Purchases of $100, OR Electronic Bill Pay transactions over three consecutive months following account opening. A variable Purchase APR and variable Balance Transfer APR of 15.24%, 19.24% or 25.24%, depending on your creditworthiness, will apply to credit card purchases, balance transfers and credit card checks for the HSBC Cash Rewards Mastercard® credit card Student Account. The variable Cash APR applies to cash advances and overdrafts, and is 27.24%. Your APRs may increase to the variable Penalty APR of 32.24% if you fail to make a minimum payment to us when due. These APRs will vary with the market based on the Prime Rate. For each billing cycle, variable APRs are calculated by adding a specified amount (“Spread”) to the U.S. Prime Rate published in the Money Rates table of The Wall Street Journal that is in effect on the last day of the month (“Prime Rate”). If the Prime Rate changes, the new APRs will take effect on the first day of your billing cycle beginning in the next month. The Minimum Interest Charge is $1.00. A Balance Transfer Fee of either $10 or 4%, whichever is greater, will apply on each balance transfer and credit card check. A Cash Advance Fee of either $10 or 4%, whichever is greater, will apply on each cash advance transaction. An Overdraft Transaction Fee of either $10 or 4%, whichever is greater, will apply on the overdraft amount, if applicable. There is no Annual Fee or Foreign Transaction Fee. 4 You will earn 1.5 Cash Rewards per dollar on all new purchases. Cash Rewards can be redeemed as cash back. Cash Rewards do not apply to account transfers, balance transfers, credit card checks, cash advances or overdrafts.
