How to apply

To apply for an HSBC Cash Rewards Mastercard® credit card Student Account, you must have an existing HSBC deposit account such as a checking, savings, or CD account.

    • Maintain a Qualifying Direct Deposit of $500, OR debit card purchases of $100 OR electronic Bill Pay for 3 consecutive months from account opening

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PROCEDURES FOR OPENING A NEW ACCOUNT

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person or entity that opens an account.

What this means for you: If you open a personal account, we will ask for your name, address, taxpayer identification number, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. Additionally, we will take certain steps to verify your identity, such as asking for your driver's license or other identifying documents or checking other sources. Similar identification requirements apply to non-personal accounts such as corporations and partnerships. Be assured that we recognize the importance of protecting your privacy and safeguarding the confidentiality of the information you provide to us.

1 No credit history required; however, applicant must meet the eligibility requirements for the HSBC Cash Rewards Mastercard® credit card Student Account.

2 You will earn 1.5 Cash Rewards per dollar on all new purchases. Cash Rewards can be redeemed as cash back. Cash Rewards do not apply to account transfers, balance transfers, credit card checks, cash advances or overdrafts. Your HSBC Cash Rewards Mastercard® credit card Student Account must be open and in good standing in order to earn Cash Rewards.

To find out what may have changed, call 800.975.4722 (HSBC).  A variable Purchase APR and variable Balance Transfer APR of 13.99% to 23.99%, depending on your creditworthiness, will apply to credit card purchases, balance transfers for the HSBC Cash Rewards Mastercard® credit card Student Account. The variable Cash APR applies to cash advances and overdrafts, and is 24.99%. Your APRs may increase to the variable Penalty APR of 29.99% if you fail to make a minimum payment to us when due. These APRs will vary with the market based on the Prime Rate. For each billing cycle, variable APRs are calculated by adding a specified amount (“Spread”) to the U.S. Prime Rate published in the Money Rates table of The Wall Street Journal that is in effect on the last day of the month (“Prime Rate”). If the Prime Rate changes, the new APRs will take effect on the first day of your billing cycle beginning in the next month. The Minimum Interest Charge is $1.00. A Balance Transfer Fee of either $10 or 4%, whichever is greater, will apply on each balance transfer. A check fee of either $10 or 4%, whichever is greater, will apply on each check written for purposes other than Balance Transfer. A Cash Advance Fee of either $10 or 5%, whichever is greater, will apply on each cash advance transaction. An Overdraft Transaction Fee of either $10 or 5%, whichever is greater, will apply on the overdraft amount, if applicable. There is no Annual Fee or Foreign Transaction Fee. The HSBC Cash Rewards Mastercard® credit card Student Account is only available for customers who are opening and are approved for or hold an existing consumer deposit relationship (Checking, Savings or Certificate of Deposit) with HSBC Bank USA, N.A.

7 The 6 Year Maintenance Fee Waiver Offer is available for applications completed in United States branches, Customer Relationship Center, the International Banking Center, or any U.S. HSBC Choice Checking website from October 31, 2020 – September 30, 2021 (“Offer Period”). To apply for a deposit account online, you must be at least 18 years of age, have a Social Security Number, currently have a U.S. residential address and have had U.S. residency for the past two years. You must be at least 18 years of age and list student as your occupation on your application (“Qualifying Student”). Customers who held an HSBC consumer deposit or investment account from October 30, 2017 through and including October 30, 2020 are not eligible for this offer. For Qualifying Students who opens an HSBC Choice Checking account during the Offer Period, the Choice Checking Account Monthly Maintenance Fee will be waived for six (6) years from account opening. Requirements and Monthly Maintenance Fee amount are subject to change. Limit one account Maintenance Fee Waiver per customer, including all individual and joint accounts — the first line name on the joint account is considered the customer for gift purposes. All promotional offers, products and services offered by HSBC are subject to updates, modifications and/or termination by HSBC.
