How to report fraud on your HSBC account

If you think there's been fraudulent activity on your HSBC account, here's what to do.

1. Update your security details

Change any passwords or log on details that could be affected. How to change your password.

2. Contact us

If you're an HSBC customer, it's quickest to chat with us online or in the app. Customers can also call 888.662.4722 or 716.841.6866 if you're not in the U.S. or Canada.

3. Take further action

You may also want to place a fraud alert on your credit report and report the fraud to the police or Federal Trade Commission.

How to report fraud if you're not an HSBC customer

If you don't have an account with us but want to report possible fraudulent activity, please call our Security Center at 877.826.8684 or 716.841.7870 if you're not in the U.S. or Canada. 

Examples of things you should tell us about include:

  • An HSBC account opened in your name
  • An unexpected phone call claiming to be from HSBC
  • If you spot HSBC on your credit report and have not applied for credit with us

Report suspicious websites, texts or emails that mention HSBC

Whether you're an HSBC customer or not, if you see a suspicious message claiming to be from us, you can send it to our phishing mailbox1. Please don't include any personal or account details in your email, we can't send individual responses from this address.

If you think someone may already have access to your account or personal details report this to us now.

Report websites or emails

Copy the full email or web address (URL) into the body of a new email and send it to phishing@hsbc.com.

Report text messages

If you receive a suspicious SMS/text, there are 4 places you can report it to: 

  • Include a screenshot of the message in the body of a new email and send it to phishing@hsbc.com
  • Forward the message to 7726 (SPAM). This helps your wireless provider block similar messages in the future. This service isn't available in all countries.
  • Report it on your messaging app. Look for the option to report junk or spam
  • Report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov
